MEDICALLY INDIGENT ADULTS PROGRAM ELIGIBILITY

The MIA (Medically Indigent Adult Services program) is a program that helps people get medical care by paying for all or part of the cost of their medical care. To apply for the MIA program you must live in Santa Barbara County, be between the ages of 21 and 64 and not qualify for Medi-Cal. You must be a United States citizen or a Permanent Resident Alien and you cannot be a full-time student. The MIA program is not an insurance program. You must be ill or injured in order to apply.

Can I apply even though I own my home?

How much money can I make and still be eligible?

How long can I get services through the MIA program?

What you can own
Applicants may own the home they live in and have one vehicle, which is used for transportation, and their eligibility will not be affected. The value of all other assets must fall within the allowed limits depending on family size.

One person $1,800
Two persons $2,700
Three persons $2,850
Four persons $3,000
Five persons $3,150
Six persons $3,300
Seven persons $3,450

How much money can I make?
Applicants' monthly income affects eligibility. If your net monthly income is up to, but not more than, the minimum amount of income listed below, then MIA covered services are free. If your income is more than the minimum amount but less than the maximum amount listed below you will have a share of cost. To determine your share of cost you subtract the minimum amount from your net monthly income and that will be your share of cost for the month. If your net monthly income exceeds the maximum amount then you are ineligible.
