WIC Eligibility

 
Eligibility Requirements for the Santa Barbara County Public Health Department WIC program:
 
  • Live in Santa Barbara County
  • Be in a category served by WIC (pregnant, breastfeeding or post-partum woman, or a child under the age of five)
  • Demonstrate a need for WIC foods by having a nutrition-related medical problem or have an inadequate diet
  • Have an income below 185% federal poverty level (see income guidelines below). Working families may qualify.

How to Apply
 
  • Call the toll free number (877) 275-8805 and the WIC staff will screen for eligibility. If you qualify, the WIC staff will give you an enrollment appointment at the WIC office nearest to your home.
  • Walk into any WIC office and pick up an application and our WIC staff will screen for eligibility. If you qualify, the WIC staff will give you an enrollment appointment at the WIC office nearest to your home. For a list of our WIC office locations, please click here.
 
Information needed for enrollment appointment
 
  • Verification of address (current utility bill, rent/mortgage receipt)
  • Proof of income or proof of Medi-Cal eligibility
  • Identification for each member of the family enrolling
  • Medical information as requested by WIC staff.
 
Nutrition Education
 
One of the benefits of the WIC program is education about nutrition and health to help you and your family eat well and be healthy. Participants of the WIC program will receive a minimum of two individual or group nutrition education sessions in a six month period. Group education sessions include topics that are designed to educate and improve the health and nutrition of the WIC participants and their families.
