Human Services Commission
The Human Services Commission consists of fifteen members appointed by the Board of Supervisors, three from each supervisorial district. Regardless of which district the appointees represent, their duties cover the entire County of Santa Barbara. Commissioners' terms are for three years, and each Commissioner may serve up to two consecutive terms.
Human Services Program staff provides administrative support
for all activities of the Human Services Commission. The Human
Services Commission makes recommendations to the Board of Supervisors
regarding the human services delivery system, as well as recommendations
for the allocation of County and State funds for essential and
specialized human services by nonprofit agencies and governmental
entities.
Once funding levels have been determined for various nonprofit agencies, the Human Services Program staff assists the Commission in monitoring program activities throughout the year to ensure that contractual obligations are being met.
