SAFE Communities Project
The purpose of this grant is to recruit, develop, and maintain a community-based injury prevention coalition that will develop a strategic plan to reduce all injuries but will focus on motor vehicle injuries among residents of Santa Barbara County.
Motor vehicle related injuries continue to be the leading cause of death nationwide for children and adults up to thirty-four (34) years of age. In 1998, two thousand two hundred and fourteen (2,214) motor vehicle occupants were injured, and thirty-one (31) were killed in Santa Barbara County.
This project will develop and maintain a diverse, community based coalition which will research and review statistical data relating to all injuries and death, but will focus on motor vehicle related incidents, develop a community profile and a strategic plan to reduce injuries and deaths. The strategic plan will provide to our county a working document that will enable the injury prevention community to move forward in developing county a working document that will enable the injury prevention community to move forward in developing innovative prevention projects with a clearly defined focus.
