Disease
Control and Prevention
An essential and core function of
Disease Control and Prevention (DC&P) is to ensure and protect
our public's health and safety. The DC&P subdivision is responsible
for disease monitoring and control activities. With a critical focus
on primary and secondary prevention activities, DC&P provides
our community with the most accurate description of the diseases
that threaten our health.
From important communicable diseases to cancer
and other chronic diseases which impact health, the DC&P programs
are charged with the key public health role of surveillance, disease
risk assessment and disease outbreak investigation and control.
To provide the best applied science to public
health is the most fundamental obligation and mission of the DC&P
to our community. The science of public health is based on the population-based
principles of biostatistics and epidemiology. It is through the
thoughtful application of our best science that our public's health
can be protected, ensured and improved.
