 What is High Risk Infant Follow Up?
High Risk Infant Follow Up: HRIF offers high risk infants comprehensive developmental assessments and vision and hearing screening up to three years of age. Infants who are born with a risk factor(s) for physical developmental problems may qualify for this service. The goal is to identify infants and toddlers with delays and refer them for early developmental services to prevent serious physical disability. Infants who meet medical eligibility criteria are evaluated with no or minimal charge to the family. Reports are sent to the child's physician for review and appropriate action.
Who is Medically Eligible for HRIF?
In brief, an infant who has experienced a serious event that could lead to a physical developmental problem is likely to be eligible. Examples include infants who were born very prematurely or infants who had a very serious illness in the newborn period. Children who already have known developmental problems or neurological conditions are not eligible because they are referred to the CCS Treatment Program or other agencies for services. How do I obtain HRIF Services?
To participate in the HRIF Program, the family, the child's physician and CCS must complete the following steps:
- Initial referral by hospital, physician, community organization or family (Click on CCS Referral Form)
- Medical records are sent from hospital and/or physician to CCS
- CCS reviews and determines medical eligibility
- CCS authorizes and pays for HRIF services provided by the HRIF Special Care Center
