Child Health and Disability Prevention Program: CHDP

The Periodicity Schedule
What is the CHDP Periodicity
Schedule?
The CHDP Periodicity Schedule gives families and providers information about what needs to be done at a visit. This assures that all the important issues are covered for the age of the child.
The schedule also describes when visits may occur. The schedule matches the usual check ups done during infancy and the toddler years. As the child grows, the spacing between CHDP exams increases. Often providers and parents desire visits between the CHDP examinations. These additional visits must usually be scheduled and paid for by the family but there are times when extra CHDP visits can be scheduled and free of cost (see below).
Does the Periodicity Schedule cover all the “check ups” a child needs?
Not all children & families are the same; so, some children may need more check ups than the periodicity schedule recommends as the minimum number of allowed visits. There are several exceptions to the schedule that are called Medically Necessary Interperiodic Health Assessments (MNIHA). This could be when a child needs a sports or camp physical, a child's school requires an entry exam, a child is placed in foster care, a child has a history of newborn difficulties and significant developmental delay. Children with these special needs are allowed a free CHDP examination annually or as needed.
