Health Care Program for Foster Care

There are approximately 450 children in foster care in Santa Barbara County. Most of these children have special health care needs. For this reason, the CHDP Program has a Public Health Nurse assigned to Santa Barbara County Children's Welfare Services and Juvenile Probation Divisions. Our mission is to assist these agencies in promoting preventive healthcare and treatment of identified health problems. They serve as resources in the development and implementation of health service plans, advocate for the health care needs of the child, and assist caseworkers to obtain health care services for children in foster care.

If you are a foster parent or a child in foster care, you may contact your case worker to ask for assistance with health care issues. The Children's Welfare Services staff know how to reach our Public Health Nurse for advice.
