  • May 08, 2006 : On Tuesday, May 9 at 8 p.m., KEYT-TV will air a made-for-TV movie titled “Fatal Contact: Bird Flu in America.” It's a movie, not a documentary. It is a work of fiction designed to entertain and not a factual accounting of a real world event.
  • May 02, 2006 : The annual quarantine on sport-harvested mussels from May 1st until October 31st.  Santa Barbara County beaches known to have mussel beds have been posted since late March due to elevated levels of domoic acid.
  • April 21, 2006: To promote childhood and adult immunizations, the Santa Barbara County Public Health Department Immunization Project provides educational materials and information to parents and immunization providers.
  • April 18, 2006: On Monday, April 17, 2006 Govenor Schwartzenegger singed Senate Bill 699 (Soto) that implements a confidential name based report system for New HIV cases in the state.
  • March 20, 2006: This year in honor of World TB Day on March 24th, the Disease Control Program staff will have TB informational booths open to the public
  • December 29, 2005: Santa Barbara County Environmental Health Services Division issued a storm water runoff advisory today, in anticipation of upcoming rains.
  • November 22, 2005: Due to the low attendance of our Immunization Clinic, as of December 1, 2005, Santa Barbara County Public Health Department will decrease Immunization Clinics from 8 clinics per month to 2 clinics per month.

  • November 16, 2005: Santa Barbara County Emergency Medical Services Agency is coordinating the participation of hospitals, ambulance providers, public health, fire, law enforcement and local government.
  • October 1, 2005: County sponsored flu clinics for the 2005-2006 flu season will begin the end of October and continue through November. Free vaccinations are available to persons ages 60 years or older and to younger persons with a doctor's verification of chronic illness.
  • August 29, 2005: A 24-year-old Carpinteria man has become the first Santa Barbara County resident to test positive for West Nile virus (WNV), Dr. Elliot Schulman, County Health Officer and Public Health Department Director, announced today.
  • July 29, 2005: Santa Barbara Public Health Department and UCSB collaborate in “Operation Gaucho” drill to “vaccinate” 300 participants in 2 hours.
  • July 27, 2005: The Santa Barbara County Public Health Department was notified today that a horse that died July 21, 2005 was Santa Barbara County’s first death from West Nile Virus in the horse population.
  • July 8, 2005: West Nile Virus has been detected in our local bird population and in mosquito samples along the South Coast in Santa Barbara County.
  • June 17, 2005 : Santa Barbara County had its first WNV activity this year with reports of two American crows that tested positive for West Nile Virus (WNV) in the South County area.
  • January 28, 2005: Because of the unique influenza vaccine supply and distribution situation this season, CDC has allowed sanofi pasteur (formerly Aventis Pasteur) to distribute doses from the CDC stockpile.
  • January 7, 2005: State Public Health Officer, Dr. Richard Joseph Jackson, today announced that California has lifted previous restrictions on flu vaccine and all Californians are now eligible.
  • December 22, 2004: Roger E. Heroux, Public Health Director, will be retiring at the end of January.
  • December 21, 2004: State Public Health Officer announced more Californians are eligible for flu vaccine.
  • November 5, 2004: The Santa Barbara County Public Health Department has identified an individual at Cabrillo High School who has active tuberculosis.
  • November 3, 2004: " We decided to make vaccines available through physicians rather than through regional flu vaccine centers for a number of reasons, “said Dr. Elliot Schulman, County Health Officer.
  • October 14, 2004: A local coalition of public health, hospital, and community clinic representatives is working on a plan to ensure people at highest risk receive an adult flu vaccine.
  • October 6, 2004: State Public Health Officer Dr. Richard Joseph Jackson asked healthy Californians today to forgo a flu shot this year to ensure that vaccine is available for individuals at highest risk of pneumonia and other flu-related complications.
  • October 6, 2004: Public Health Department is working actively with a community collaborative of large medical groups, hospitals, pharmacies and other health care community partners to provide guidance on the prioritization of our limited vaccine resource this flu season.
  • October 5, 2004: The Public Health Department is working to address a shortage of adult flu vaccine caused by the temporary license suspension of nationwide supplier of vaccine.
  • October 5, 2004: A 24-year-old Santa Barbara resident who worked out of state for several months this past summer has tested positive for West Nile Virus.
  • August 12, 2004: Santa Barbara County Public Health Department has confirmed that a crow positive for West Nile Virus has been found in the Solvang area.
  • July 29, 2004: The Santa Barbara County Public Health Officer has issued a reporting that two crows in the Santa Maria/Orcutt and Summerland communities have tested positive for West Nile Virus.
