Tobacco Prevention Program
The
Tobacco Prevention Program offers information about the effects
of tobacco use and works to make our community a healthier place
to live by teaching children not to smoke, helping smokers break
their addiction to tobacco, protecting the public from secondhand
smoke, and limiting minor's access to tobacco. Brochures and videos
on tobacco related topics are available to the public. Program
staff also provide education on laws governing tobacco use and
sales and assist with enforcement of many of these laws.
HIV/AIDS Education and
Prevention
The HIV/AIDS Programs offer information, training,
referrals and assistance to individuals and organizations county-wide.
Programs include education, preventive care and treatment, early
intervention, anonymous testing, AIDS surveillance and epidemiology.
Health Promotion and
Education
Preventing illness and promoting good health is the goal of
the Health Education programs. Health educators work to raise
people's awareness about health issues. Health Promotion and Education
Programs are staffed by professional health educators who specialize

Dental Disease Prevention
Program
DDP
The Dental Disease Prevention Program teaches
children about dental health in classrooms from preschool through
sixth grade. Children learn about daily dry brushing and flossing
and are given oral hygiene supplies such as toothbrushes and dental
floss. They can also get daily fluoride tablets with parental consent.
Program staff provide teachers with classroom and curriculum materials,
as well as consultation and assistance about dental health education.

Tri-Counties
Cancer Detection Partnership
The Tri-Counties Cancer Detection Partnership
(TCCDP) offers free clinical breast exams and mammograms to eligible
women over 40. Women who do not have insurance or cannot afford
to pay for breast exams can access these services through TCCDP.
The program provides patient education, as well as help with transportation
to appointments and referrals for support services.
Family Violence Prevention
Program
The Office of Family Violence Prevention (OFVP)
works with a variety of community coalitions to end the cycle of
child, intimate partner, elder, dependent adult, and pet abuse in
Santa Barbara County. OFVP activities include community assessment
and research, strategic planning, program development, community
outreach and education, and grant-writing.
