The
primary goal of the Santa Barbara County Environment Health's Food
Safety Program is to prevent the occurrence of
food borne
illnesses through regulatory and educational efforts with
restaurants, markets and other retail food facilities.
"Retail
Food Establishment Online Inspection Results"
is a web-based service provided to inform the public about inspections conducted
of retail food establishments in Santa Barbara County. Retail food
establishments include restaurants, fast food establishments, schools,
grocery stores, delicatessens, cafeterias, bakeries, ice cream
trucks, mobile food units, and temporary food facilities. The purpose of
the inspections is to assure that food is being handled safely
from preparation through serving to the customer. Environmental Health
Specialists observe
food handling practices, check equipment for proper operation,
check food temperatures, inspect refrigerators and storage
areas, check the proper water temperatures and correct use of
sanitizers, signs of vermin and proper waste disposal.

After
completing an inspection, the Environmental
Health
Specialist provides
the facility owner/operator
with a copy
of the inspection report as a reference to
correct
discrepancies
and to be
available
for public view. Summaries of inspection
results are normally
posted on
the EHS website
within two
business days.
The
inspection summary report is provided
so
that the public
can
quickly identify whether
Major Violations were observed
during the inspection.
To view inspection results, select
"On-line Inspection Search" under the Resources menu.
